Ouassim studied Urban planning and Environment at the University of Nijmegen. With his background in area development, he was involved in the integration of sustainable innovation in the development of cities. He is convinced that a more holistic and system dynamic view in the development of cities can offer a solution to current social and environmental problems.

Due to his interest in sustainability, innovation and business development and the ambition to contribute to a more sustainable and healthier living environment, Ouassim Khatraoui founded KOTA Sustainable Ideas in 2022. With KOTA Sustainable Ideas he works primarily on (technical) innovations and solutions for more sustainable agriculture and food systems, circular use of raw materials, innovative applications for sustainable energy and climate resilience.

His work didn’t go unnoticed. In 2026, Ouassim won BUILD Magazine's Architecture Awards for the most innovative consultancy in sustainable area development with KOTA Sustainable Ideas.

BUILD Magazine saw in KOTA a company that makes an impact with its visionary thinking in the field of climate-proof and sustainable area development.
