These projects demonstrate how KOTA Sustainable Ideas translates sustainable spatial transitions into concrete solutions that contribute to a more sustainable living environment.

Pathways2Resilience
Together with Soil Valley and in collaboration with the Green Metropolitan region Arnhem- Nijmegen, KOTA Sustainable Ideas participated in the European Pathways2Resilience project under Horizon Europe.
Pathways2Resilience is part of the Horizon Europe research and innovation programme, in which dozens of European regions use an innovative methodology to work step by step towards becoming climate-resilient regions for the future.
As part of this project, KOTA Sustainable Ideas conducted an extensive stakeholder analysis. The analysis identified various stakeholders and the relationships between them that play an important role in the further development of climate adaptation within the Green Metropolitan region Arnhem- Nijmegen.
Within the GMR region, drought and excess water were the key themes, with a particular focus on promoting climate-resilient construction as a response to the increasing risks of drought and excess water across the region.
This European project resulted in an investment plan, innovation agenda and action plan aimed at creating a future-proof and climate-resilient region within the GMR.

Feasibility study De Horst
The municipality of Berg en Dal faces the challenge of developing new housing in De Horst neighbourhood. This neighbourhood has been identified as hydrologically vulnerable with persistent water-related challenges, high groundwater levels and limited infiltration capacity.
A feasibility study is therefore being conducted to determine whether housing development is possible in De Horst and, if so, at which locations and under what conditions it can be realised. In addition, the study aims to develop guidelines for climate-resilient construction and to expand knowledge of climate-resilient and circular building practices.
KOTA Sustainable Ideas has contributed to the development of this study by helping to formulate the guidelines for climate-resilient construction and by conducting desk research to provide insight into how climate-resilient and circular building methods can be combined.
The study is being carried out in collaboration with the municipality of Berg en Dal, the Green Metropolitan region Arnhem- Nijmegen, Soil Valley, Water authority Rivierenland and property developer BoVa.

Rural Development Innovation (RUDI)
Rural regions across Europe are increasingly falling behind urban areas in terms of prosperity.
Ongoing population decline in rural areas poses a serious challenge to their economic viability, resulting in shortages of labour and skills. As a consequence, people living in rural communities have access to fewer and fewer resources to build sustainable livelihoods.
KOTA Sustainable Ideas is therefore collaborating with Soil Valley and Wageningen Environmental Research on the Horizon Europe project Rural Development Innovation (RUDI). The project analyses the demographic and climate-related challenges facing the Liemers region. At the same time, a Rural Innovation Cluster (RIC) and a Rural Living Lab (RLL) are being established in the region to develop a long-term strategy and innovative solutions for the Liemers. The RIC and RLL will bring together a diverse range of regional stakeholders from the Liemers, who will collaborate according to the Quadruple Helix structure.
The Liemers region in Gelderland represents one of eight European regions participating in this project as part of a European consortium. These regions exchange knowledge and experiences to support the wider implementation of successful innovative solutions across rural areas in Europe.
Within the RUDI project, KOTA Sustainable Ideas is responsible for project management and coordinates the progress of the project, including the establishment of the Rural Living Lab (RLL) in the region.
